The Cagliari group (Sardinia, Italy) is offering 2 postdoc positions in the field of Pulsar Timing Arrays, who will work as part of the EPTA and IPTA. Candidates with any type of expertise in PTAs, pulsar science or gravitational wave physics are welcome to apply. Application deadline: January 31 st 2024.
We especially welcome candidates who can help with any of the following:
- the installation of pulsar data (backend) acquisition systems at the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT)
- the operations and creation of data products for the SRT and the LEAP (Large European Array for Pulsars) project; participation in the IPTA Data Acquisition Working Group
- analysis of pulsar timing data and in particular mitigation of the effects of the interstellar medium and/or solar wind
- interpretation of PTA data, in particular as it relates to cosmology or modified gravity, and participation in the IPTA new physics group
The deadline is January 31. To participate in the competition, it is necessary to have a PhD or a master's degree + at least 3 years of research experience (after the master's) by the application deadline of January 31. As part of the application, we ask for a research statement and 2 letters of recommendation. The preferred starting date can be between March and July 2024, but is negotiable.
Note: candidates who have obtained all of their degrees (master's and PhD) outside of Italy will be required to produce some documents before they can be hired (this only applies to candidates who win the competition; those documents are not needed by the application deadline). The procedure is easier for candidates who have obtained either their master's or their PhD in Europe; it is more lengthy for candidates who have obtained both their master's and PhD outside of Europe. We will clarify the requirements with the selected candidates.
